OP,

If you open this link and go to post #49 you'll see the engine bay ground points for '98 + XJ's.

https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/gre...e-6558/index4/

Your '96 may be somewhat different in that there's a ground that goes from the alternator to G101, and there may be more wires at G102.

There's two ground cables from the battery, one to G100 and one to G101.

That ground you made at the right fender may be okay provided you removed all paint on the fender so the ring teminal will make a good chassis ground.

I spotted the Orange Can of Death (Fram oil filter) in one of your pics.

You should think about replacing it with a WIX 51515 oil filter.

"99... Well, the photos in that link will work then.

Harness swap isn't as easy as it is to say.

Ok.update on this the wires are good.friend has a 99 that part is good.negative was not grounded right. Fixed that.still need to check the rest of grounds around engine and clean.nowy belt does squeel.as soon as it starts squeeling is when it sky rockets to overcharge.it stays right where its supposed to and after about a min holding the rpms around 2k it goes up it has also dropped down to 9 before tooo though. I think I need to replace belt tighten pulley.clean grounds and go from there.I really think I need a new pcm the regulator is probably fried.from when the guy before my spliced the msd ignition into the alts wiring
