Default Is grease pretty much grease ?

Not really related to my Jeep but - I just picked up a tube of "Valucraft" multipurpose lithium grease from AutoZone. Is that good enough stuff for general purposes ? (I'm in Mexico and we don't have the variety of things in the States).

Thanks

I would think it would be ok for most uses.

Just be sure to get a good high wear/high temp grease for the wheel bearings. That would be the one thing that would be under more stress than most other places that need grease.

I used a grease gun for the first time today. I had no trouble inserting the tip of the gun onto the zerk fittings but I had the hardest time removing it from the zerk when the grease had been applied. I was yanking and wiggling and turning. Is there a secret ?

Generally Lithium grease is used on your Jeep but not for high pressure applications, like ball joints, tie rods, etc. You'll see lithium grease used on door locks and other sliding surfaces in the Jeep.

It's grease. Given that most XJ's are owned by people who don't have a grease gun and rely on the grease monkeys at the oil change places to lube things I'd say you are fine. I'm a fan of red lithium grease but the standard multipurpose is fine

For steering any NLGI GC-LB tube like Ken posted will do just fine. Most products bear this mark. Last time I went grease shopping I could even find any that were GC or LB only
