Default Grinding noise when tire spins

Help please!!!! I have an 01 xj 4.0 auto w/ the d35 and this winter i have noticed that "sometimes" when the rear tire spins, i'll hear a grinding noise coming from the rear end.?. I've only noticed this when in 2wd. Sometimes it sounds as if it's coming from the transfer case as well.?. Any ideas as to what may be going on? I've checked the rear diff fluid level, and the transfer case linkage seems to be fine(no issues shifting into 4hi/4lo). Is it possible i've got more than one problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

U need to find out exactly where the sound is coming from, if its in the rear end it could be a bearing going bad or if u do a lot of 4 wheeling in it it could be the gear itself damaged

sounds like rust in your drums. nothing to really worry about but start thinking about pulling and cleaning your drums, might as well change the brakes too while they are off

Could be the bearing on your passenger side of your axle. If that goes then it will create a grinding noise, also could be an inner bearing on the carrier but its not likely. Also as stated above check your drums for worn out shoes and springs.

I also have this noise even with car lifted and drums off, im suspecting an axle bearing since the noise is still apparent when my foots off the gas and goes until i come to a complete stop.

I just noticed the same issue with my 01. It has been raining here and it seemed that when I would take off and tire lose traction the noise would begin but as soon as I gained traction it would quit. It sounds like the noise I'm hearing is coming from the front. Any ideas?

interesting i have a simalar issue, i don't think mine is the bearings though. i get the noise when i lay on the throttle hard from a dead stop, I'm sure it's coming from the transmission or transfer case. when I can hear it it's like the engine is working hard and no power is hitting the ground. but if I hold the gas down with the break at a dead stop then let go of the break and slam on the gas it's not there and i get almost all of my power. any ideas? is it time for a transmission/transfercase swap?

btw, it's an 89 4.0 4x4 dana 30 up front dana 35 in the rear, part time transer case and an aw-4 transmission.

I've checked all my you joints done the transfer case fluid and phon i've checked all my you joints done the transfer case fluid. Fully inspected front and rear diff and replaced fluid in both. Brought it to a shop a couple times to get inspected, talked to a lot of people and I've got absolutely nowhere.
