what didn't you like about them? so far everyone i know that actually had them, liked them, including me. and i'm not counting pavement pounders, that doesn't matter to me if they look cool and pound the pavement nice. mine performed better off road than bfg mud and all terrains. i do know they aren't exactly a mud tire.

OK back to his original question about grooving. like he said thats what this was about. try and groove them like you said, just dont use a chainsaw like the guy in the movie haha.

yeah i watched a couple of videos online about tire grooving. i am going to look at the tires this weeked and if i get em i am going to order a grooving gun

The Turds do not clean out well and do not bite enough in loose sloppy mud. At the time, I was mud boggin down in Morrison and I had them on my Ranger. The mud there started as a thick gooey consistance at the beginning of the day, progressed through a slippery thin ooze at the end of the first round and by the end of the day got a very tacky clumpy consistancy. If I could catch the side of the lane, the side lugs would bite a bit and give a enough traction to win the earlier rounds. The middle rounds I was dead... I always hoped to draw the back end of those rounds.

I finally got rid of them when I was traveling across a farm field that had been tilled. I reached where the field met a small wooded area and attempted to drive up the small incline into the woods. The front tires slid sideways across the wet grass and the rears helpless spun on the wet loose dirt.

i don't remember doin this, but ya you got where i'm at. i was really just interested in what you didn't like, and i would agree, big time mud they will not clean out as well as some others.

sorry for the hi jack, i enjoyed the feedback on the thornbirds though. btt, i do want to see how the grooving works out.

i bet with the tough bias ply, and adding some more grooves to clean out they will do very well for you.

i talked to the guy on the phone again this morning. i am going to pick them up tomorrow. i am getting them for 350 bucks they have about 80% tread left and are 35x14.5. i think thats a pretty good deal considering the price aggressive tires. i will be mounting them on my aluminum 15x10 weld rims and running them for a little. then i will groove them and see how much of a difference it makes

nice..theres a set of 35" thornbirds with decent tread around here for $200..wish i had money

yeah they have a bad rep so it seems like the used ones dont hold there value. any other 35 inch tire around here is going for atleast 500. unless its like a bfg a/t or something u can get them for like 300-350 in decent shape. i think i will be happy with the thornbirds. and it defently beats spending 1200 bucks on boggers and watching them wear out in 6 months

Post lots of pics after you groove them. I'm interested to see how this turns out, but confident you'll improve their performance by grooving.

I was like the 4th owner of a set when I lived in florida. They look sweet but for some reason they never really cleaned mud out easy. And it is hard to drive 60+ miles a day on them. But for 350 I would take a set again and probably groove them like you plan too.

Grooved tires work best in the sand. Actually it really only depends on the way you groove them... If they are a bias ply tire you cant park the JEEP for a while or they will flat spot.

i was going to go tonight to look at them but the guy already sold them. o well. he also is selling a set of dick cepek fun country kevlars they are 36x16.5 he said i could have those for 350. they have a lot of tread also. i am really thinking about it
