I'm hoping someone can help me identify this ground. I have a 98 Sport two door and this ground is located on the passenger side fender near the hood brace. I have very dull headlights and I'm wondering if this could have something to do with it. I just replaced the bulbs in the H4 conversion lights and little to no change. Thanks!

That looks home-made. It may have been for something totally unrelated to your headlights....
Do you have the headlight harness upgrade? That helps a good bit for the typical XJ dull headlights. Simple search on google for the harness.

Thanks for the suggestion. I did hear that the harness upgrade can help but I haven't installed one yet. It seems like there are a lot of options at different price points. Do you know how much I should be spending on one? I don't want to overkill it. Thanks again.

I got mine from Susquehanna Motorsports (rallylights.com) when I bought my Hella H4 housings from them, and I've been happy with the quality. I can't remember what I paid for it, but give them a call.

You can find those headlight harnesses for as little as $15-$30. Plug and play. If you have fog lights, you will have to cut a wire and resplice it, but i cant remember which one it is.

Mine had one about same location it ran inside the fuse box but went to if I remember correctly a relay.Think it was for either something jumped out on the efan or the coolant temp sensor that was the first 2 things I fixed when I bought it. I fixed some much stuff on it I don't remember exactly but sure it was one or the other.

I think I paid about $22 for my harness on Amazon......... works great.

One thing I'm going to warn you about with that Amazon harness. Replace the fuse holder they have with a waterproof one with a cover on it. Mine got the "green crusties" (corrosion) which created enough resistance to melt the holder. One dark night on a lonely country road, I lost ALL my headlights! I had to cut it out and pigtail the 2 wires together to get home, hoping nothing would short out. If you don't carry a Leatherman, get one. It's a great tool to have at times like that.

Dielectric grease is your friend. Relays, bulbs, ground connections. Use it often and use it generously.

100%. I was debating covering the relays and fuse holder in a VERY thin layer of Vaseline with barely any visible accumulation, then cover it in silicone. Then if it goes bad, just got to rip the silicone off and it "should" be easy since it's not stuck to the part... Just encased and sticking to itself....
