Gunk
Anyone ever tried one of the 'Gunk' engine flushes before an oil change? How did it work? I think I'm going to do it this afternoon.

change your oil more often and clean it that way. In etreme cases of sludge build up I have run ATF 1 qt in a vehicle for about 20 minutes drained and put the customer on more frequent oil changes until it clears up.

Ive heard people say that cleaning a heavily sludged engine should be done slowly to reduce the chance of a chunk blocking an oil passage. To me it makes sense, i mean that sludge took time to build up, you should carefully remove it. I was gonna go with seafoam and hope for miracles, instead i just bought a case of filters and a few boxes of rotella, ill be changing my filter every 1000 and my oil every 2. Maybe in a few months ill crack it back open and see how it looks.

I did the flush with my oil change. After I did the treatment and drained the old oil I dropped the oil pan and cleaned it. Holy crap. A lot of filth. Just about all of it came out with the old oil but there was some in the bottom of the pan. The old oil came out black. I don't mean old oil is dirty looking like normal, I mean BLACK. It was worth the five bucks. I did seafoam through the brake booster and the other half in the crank case for good measure. Noticeable difference.
