Problem with hi/lo with new headlight wiring harness
Installed an upgraded headlight wiring harness today. Have an issue though. If I turn on my headlights with no key in the switch they are switchable between high and low, no problem. With the key in accessory position, the on position and with vehicle running I can not turn off high beams. If they column switch is on low when I turn the lights on I can switch to high but they will not switch back to low. If in either of these 3 same situations with the key and the lights are turned on with the column switch on high, once again I can not get them to switch to low.
They worked fine before I did the upgrade. Any idea what it could be? The only thing I can think of is one of the relays are bad. How about a bad ground? I don't think a ground would cause this problem though.

Do you have factory foglights or even just the switch and wiring?
If so, there is a quick fix. I just can't find it on my PC before a cup of coffee.

I figured it out
The factory fogs are not on vehicle. But aftermarket ones are. They are wired to the original dash switch. I determined however that they are not tied in to the original fog harness as they did not come on and off with the change between high and low beams. So, I simply removed the fog lamp relay from the fuse box under the hood. Bingo. I hope nothing else goes through that relay though.

Now which lights to install. Can't see the cost/benefit of $400 Trucklites. The ones at the opposite end of the price spectrum probably aren't where it is at either. Suggestions as to ones in the middle? You can make yourself dizzy reading hours on end of light posts on various forums.

E-code housings for right-hand traffic and 100/55 or 100/90 bulbs. I run 100/55 bulbs in Bosch E-code DOT housings, and they put out plenty of useful light and are a huge step up from stock sealed beams. Hella housings are excellent also, and Autopals are a less expensive option but don't have the sharp cutoff of the Hella and Bosch housings. No need to go crazy when there are great, affordable options. If you want to upgrade further than that, replace the fusible links in your harness with fuses.
