H4 Conversion
#31
Hi, this is my first post on the forum so apologies if this isn't the right place.
I've just changed over the headlights on my '99 XJ to an H4 set of bulbs with a control relay and replacement harness. All went really well after a bit of planning and the odd unexpected thing like having to trim the rubber seals on the new projector open beam units do they would fit the housing. The only hassle I've got is that once I've switched on then the units don't switch off when I switch them off. They shut off when I turn off the ignition ok.
Anyone any ideas?
I placed the relay and connected the connector to the dusting right hand headlight wiring socket.
The units are branded Exsun and come from a reputable dealer here in the UK.
The XJ is the RHD Export variant as I live in Scotland.

Eautoworks harness. I've installed three of them. Autopal E-code housings. Your pick on the wattage of bulbs.

Gotcha. Do you know if the eauto harness works with the projector plugs?
Trying to find someone who has used it or knows if they work together.
If you can't already tell I have my heart set on projectors, but I have the factory 1987 harness, pointless to upgrade the lights and not the harness.

No, I don't. The eautoworks harness has the 3 prong plugs just like stock headlamps.

I believe that the harness that eautoworks sells is the Putco harness and it will have plugs for H4/sealed beam. Not sure what plugs the projectors use. I was not real impressed with the beefiness of the wire used in the Putco harness. Daniel Stern Lighting sells premade harnesses now (not on web site, I've been talking to Daniel about my own upgrades) but they are expensive. Knowing him they will be best quality however. Unfortunately I am not aware of anything in between the two in terms of price.

I don't have much knowledge here, so this could be way off...
Couldn't I just splice the right connector onto the harness then? Or ...maybe not?
Again, this end is new to me.
Thanks for not beating me up about it.

The Putco/eautoworks harness is rated for 100 watt bulbs FYI.

How many watts are the projectors? And then if ou could do that, I would solder only.

I have yet to buy anything. I like to see everything through mentally before pulling the trigger. I don't like mistakes, so I want to know what I gotta do before doing it.
Here are the two threads I have read from here to get a decent feel for what is involved:

I don't see why you couldn't splice the harness... I'd be tempted to solder and heat shrink with the good adhesive lined stuff...

If you don't get projectors that are plug and play with the H4 plugs then you should be able to match up the wiring and either solder or crimp connect them together.

And I really should just start my own thread...
