Has Anyone Ever
Has anyone done or considered putting one of these in your XJ....?
I would like to know how people think it would work

seems like a good idea if you camp a lot. i wonder how much that would drain the battery though. i know a guy who runs a 12V mini fridge type thing off of an auxiliary battery in his XJ and loves the setup. maybe it'd be better to run it off an auxiliary battery then.

I've used mini-fridge's but I don't think I'd buy one from some guy on ebay. Wal-mart, Sams, Kmart, Target - somebody with a return policy and warranty capability. I've always thought these things were high-failure-rate items.

Those thermoelectric coolers suck. They cool to 40degrees cooler than the air outside of them. If your Jeep is parked outside in the summer the temps inside can easily get over 100 degrees meaning that cooler will be 60+ degrees inside.
They are also mega power hogs. a separate batt is a must unless you plan on leaving the Jeep running.
Look for a actual fridge with a 12v compressor or one that runs on propane. they will get MUCH colder and are much more efficient although they are a tad pricey.....

I had something like that before, it worked but it was a hassle. Takes up room, you have an extra cord lying around. Just go the old school way, nice coleman cooler with ice....works evertime with no failure rate

I like a big ice chest too!
I freeze up some big blocks of ice ahead of a trip. 2 or 3 litre soda bottles, & you cut the bottle off carefully after it's frozen.
Or get some cheap stack-able type containers from the dollar store, & you can re-use them. Even those rectangular tubs work well.
