Has anyone tried getting a good (or decent/better then stock) sound system from a car in the JY with a good sound system in it? I was thinking a system from a newer WJ limited with the good sound system in it? Would it be possible to just transfer the speakers, headunit, and amp over?

I'm sure it would be possible, although imo it would be easier (and probably not too much more expensive) to just get an aftermarket head unit and speakers. If you watch websites and stores ad's there are often GREAT deals on speaker/head unit combos.

Just buy good after market parts that fit. The main thing is the radio likely will not fit in the slot where your XJ's radio was.

u gotta watch for speaker size....im not positive but wj's have bigger speakers in the front doors and in the rear...cuz when i went in to buy new speakers for mine...the guy thought i said grand cherokee and gave me the speakers that his computer said a 2000 grand cherokee had..and they were the bigger size.....i would def. jus go to a audio store and buy some aftermarket stuff...i got 4 new kenwood Excelon series speakers and they sound pretty sweet!

if your shoppin on a budget and would rather spend the good money on more essential parts then yes

when i first bought mine jeep a stereo was the last thing i was worried about so i bought a used CD deck (and i had an all mighty aftermarket tape deck in mine at the time) and 400watt amp off a buddy and went to the wrecker did some diggin and found a set of 150watt 5.25 pioneers in a cherokee

and for about $100 i had a decent/better then the stock sound system it was by no means amazing but it was decent untill i got a stronger deck and better amp and blew the speakers im which case i shopped around and got a deal on some previous year speakers and now its about as good as an XJ is gunna get with 5.25" speakers most are actually shocked to fined out im using such small speakers and getting the sound that i am

ok i was just toyin around with the idea, i havent really looked into the cost or anything. So i was just curious. And the size was one of my concerns too. oh well. my plan isnt to get the best sounding system either, just something that sounds better then, umm whats that radio thing called? AM radio? haha
does anyone have any reccomendations for sites or places that are good for audio stuff?
any kind of experiences with any brands? dislikes?

I went with after market Alpine deck, will be doing some cutting in the doors to fit SPL 6" and 6X9 in the back hatch. also got 2 10" subs in the back. will be making them custom boxes which will make them look like they were ment to be there. im going to put 5 1/4" in the front kick panel so i can still have music when i go doorless. i will wire them to a switch to turn them off when the doors r on. easier to go stock size with aftermark for better sound. and most single deck headsets fit the jeep bracket, you just cant put the plastic trim piece on the headset

i have had these same speakers and headset in a 2002 dodge dakota, and a 95 acclaim. so far the jeep was easiest to install and sounds the best.

Even if you get a "better" system from another vehicle its still gonna be an OEM stereo which unless its Bose or mark levinson or something like that its gonna suck. Including the infinity garbage that chrysler uses. Get you a nice Eclipse or Alpine head unit and some good speakers and you'll love the sound you'll get. Trust me!

id say go Alpine or Clarion for head units as those have been the best in my experience im also running a clarion amp thats been great and for speakers i have some local audio store house brand speakers made by harmon kardon(i think thats how its spelled) and cause they were "house brand" they didnt have the highend price ($100/pair 250watts a piece i think)

as for subs id say forget them as everything on cherokees rattles too much as is and every xj ive seen with subs sounded like crap

however im not a fan of big bass either so i guess its all personal preference

as i said earlier i have 2 10" 600 watt rms subs and the only thing that rattles in my XJ is the sunglasses holder on the roof the drivers side door where there is a crack in the metal and the back hatch because my latch is broken. and jeeps are one of the best vehicles for sound systems. better air flow making for harder hits and higher sound quality. sound for me is a hobbie. if you want cheap and good for door speakers, one of the best i have ever had would be speakers from Fusion. around here (elizabeth city, NC) i got them for bout $25 per pair

dam guys. thanks for the great imput. so i'll probably go with an Alpine headunit. What kind of speakers do you reccomend for the doors and sound bar? Also what kind of 9" sub would you guys reccomend? i was thinking about makin a box of some sort to shove into that cubble hole that has no purpose in the back across from the spare kinda like this

or instead of that have cloth the same color as the plastic cover that entire area. making it seem like nothing is there, even though you can barely see through the tint

im not sure bout a 9" sub but i know theres a few companys that have decent 8" or you can even fit a shallow 10" in there as for there construction of the box make sure ya know what your doing cause its construction will determine wether it sound good or like crap and id say do the material over the speaker to give it that stealth look from prying eyes

xjsoundwave seems to know his stuff about audio so im sure he'll be able to answer better as i only know what i had researched when i was lookin at subs for the cubby but decided against goin that route as i figured something rolling around the back of my jeep would wreck it sooner or later and like i said my jeep like many has way to many loose piece that would drive me nuts with bass

BTW there is a company that has a premade cubby box(8") i think you can find it on quadratec still
