Look around for chrysler vehicles with Infinity systems. A few of them come with these great sounding systems. My 2000 dodge dakota had an Infinity system from the factory and it sounded WONDERFUL (according to my friends who thought I had an aftermarket system in there).

my mistake, 8". i'd rather not go with a plastic thing to hold it. Using a wood box just sounds to me, better in construction and would reduce rattle. But thats just what i would think. Im not lookin for some hard hitting bass to rattle the jeep apart, i just want something to, when it hits, feel a small vibration and make the music sound so much better, without bass, to me the music sucks.

Now what kind of Fusion Speakers did you get XJSoundwave? Also does anyone else have any recomendations for decent, but relatively cheap speakers for the door and sound bar?

Personaly I would go with an pioneer headunit anyday over a comparable alpine unit.
But that just might be comparing apple to oranges in most cases

As for speakers boston acustics has a nice selection, you could get at a nice price.

If I was you I would skip the 8 inch and just get a nice set of componet speakers up front (Pioneer makes a nice set at a decent price)and maybe a pair of 5 1/4 co (jl has a set with nice bass)in back. Just need to get a small amp and do a little cutting for the tweets up front. You will deff get crystal clear sound with some nice mild bass with the right setup. IMO just throwing in a sub somewhere it don't belong only distorts the sound. Also it's overkill if your not looking to spend serious money on your system.

I'll tell you what I did and maybe it will help. I bought an Aiwa head unit so I didn't have to break the bank and can spend some money on other things. They make a good product and it has an auxillary out for my mini disc recorder (when our band records we listen back in my jeep). I bought four 5.25" pioneer 2-way speakers for the doors and rear hatch for about $80. In the back I have one Infinity Perfect 10 with an MTX amp. It sounds great and not too much bass. Total I spent about $400 total. Which you could spend on the head unit alone. Look at Amazon and Deals.com for discontinued items.

the cheapest way to get good sound and a little bit of base is to go with the component speakers in the front and fit some 6x9's in the back hatch. if you have ever heard a stock bose system in a toyota thats what you will be getting, maby a little bit better. all component speakers are are full speakers with the tweeters by themselves and a two or three way crossover. that is what will seperate the frequincies and have your tweeters play only highs and your 5 1/4" speakers play mids and lows. you can either put the tweeters in the dash or close to your head like over the seat belt on the side( that will probably sound better). I was gonna get these http://www.expressionsofstyle.com/spc-50.html there is another site that has them for about $30 but i cant find it right now.

if you r going to get a sub for the cubby dont bother paying for a box. just get a 1/2" to 3/4" thick piece of wood cut to the shape of the area but so that it fits over it, wrap it in carpet. when you screw it into the side pannel, put scilicon between them to fill in the gap. it will make it a sealed box and cut the rattle out between the wood and side pannel. clean up the scilicon that may show and put either an eight or a ten in there and it will sound good. if you get a ten you may want to get a truck sub. they are the shallow subs and are ment for being behind seats in single cab truck or in spots like that cubby. use wood screws not thin thread screws. bad idea on my part. nothings stays together with the thin thread screws

on the power rating you wont need much to have good sound. a speaker with a 200-300 watt rms rating will be perfect. and a small 200-400 watt amp to power it. the fusion sub i had was 200 watt rms with a 300 watt amp. it sounded really good in a car(sold it before i got the jeep) it sounded better than stock but not head pounding loud. it was a Fusion Encounter 10.

last bu not least is your sub protection plan. the stuff hitting your sub can be solved with a simple grill. it screws right on to your sub and keeps most debrie (stuff) off. And definately TINT!!! i had my speakers stolen thursday becuase they are in plain view (and the fact that my 2 tens in a jeep hit harder than my friend 12s in his avenger) btw i am now looking for a new back glass.

the fusion speakers i had were in my dakota they were 6 1/2 encounter 2 ways and then my encounter 10 all made by fusion. the 6 1/2s werereally good quality speakers no complaints but the 10 not good if you want to beat someone brains out bout really good if you want to add alittle vibration and sound.

but shop around on the internet. you can find stuff cheap. my main advice is to look at rms wattage and not max... they might have a max of 3000 but an rms of 150 and sound like crap with too much power put on them

my old system (the fusion system) was bout $250 all together. but my head unit was given to me and my amp was sold to me by my bro. scince my system with the spl tens was stolen, my new system is gonna be all compettiton and worth about $3,000. i will be buying piece by piece

my new system will consist of the brand Soundstream. as good or better than mtx and memphis but a little cheaper
