Default Having problems changing cps. UPDATE CPS changed still problems.

I am laying under my xj right now with my long *** extension trying to change my crank position sensor on my 98. Problem is I can't get the socket on the top bolt there is a rubber grommet that is popped out that keeps getting in the way. Any tips? Also should I be going over the cross member or under it?

New problem how do you get the new sensor in place with the stupid rubber boot

Well I finally got everything changed. I thought everything was working fine and then all of a sudden when I got on the highway it started feeling like I was hitting huge pot holes and missing big time. I dont think it is quite as bad as before but I am still really ticked off. Unfortunately I thought with my pocket book and bought the $37 crank position sensor from 1aauto.com which does have a lifetime warranty. So who knows if that is the issue or not.

But, what are some other possible reasons my Jeep could be misfiring especially at speeds greater than 55 MPH? The plugs, wires, and rotor are maybe 2.5 to 3 years old. I am not sure if that is getting to be past their prime or not. Any additional help or ideas is appreciated.

have you removed and visually inspected the plugs, wires, cap and/or rotor? that would be a good start. possibly measure resistance in the wires if they look suspect.

Could be the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) ? Might also check the cap, rotor, wires, and pick up wire before buying parts.
