Default Head bolt/studs

I'm trying to locate new head bolts and studs for my 4.0L I6 motor and for some reason I can't find any. ARP is closed today (may try again tomorrow), called the Jeep dealership and they couldn't find a listing for it, called Summit and they didn't have a listing for them either (ARP or Mopar). I am using a 1995 block and I'm installing a 1997 head and I want to be sure I have the right bolts (dealership said there are differences between the 95 and 97)

Anyone have some useful information for me? Thanks

I don't have any helpful information, but if it were me I'd be patient and wait for ARP to open again.

I used their studs on an Eclipse reaching 30+ psi, and a friend of mine was boosting to 55+ psi.

I don't think you'll need their stronger studs, standard studs should be fine.

They are probably a different thread size. So my guess is you would go by the year of the block. I am not 100% sure but I did read something about later models using a different sized stud/bolt.

so you think it's more likely the size of the thread and not the thickness of the bolt that's different? Guess I should pull the old head off and see how it compares to the new one.

Fel Pro makes stock style head bolts. I have 'em for my XJ (but not installed yet - pending head gasket repair job). They LOOK to be good quality and well made. Got mine from Summit for 40 bucks.

The thread pitch may not be the determining factor. It could be with actual diameter of the stud being too large to pass through the holes.

If you can use studs I'd suggest using them as opposed to using head bolts.

Which is what I said. The newer heads use a bigger stud/bolt. So he would have to go with the studs/bolts for the year of the block. Is it that confusing.

I understood, not sure if the other guy did.

Maybe he was just trying to clearify?

Okay, here's what I'm doing. I have a 1995 block that I'm going to install into my 1997 XJ (which had a cracked block). The head from the 97 was taken to a machine shop and freshened up so I want to use that head. I have called the dealership, Summit racing, and now Felpro and no one has anything listed for Jeep 4.0L engine blocks older than 1996. They all agree that there is something different about the bolts but cant tell me what exactly.

I haven't compared the head from the '97 with the one on the '95 block, but I know the casting numbers are different and it was suggested that there is something different (like a hole that needs plugged or something). I think I also read that the design of the head, profromance wise, was very simular- so another question would be, should I just sell the '97 head and use the money to pay to have the '95 head re-done? Won't I still need (want) to replace the head bolts too? Or should I drill and tap the block to accept the newer head bolts and studs (assuming they're bigger)?

Oh, and that link for felpro from blasto9000, those are for '96 and newer engines. Thanks though.

Do you the bolts from your 97 and the 95? I definitely would not drill and tap the block.

Your best bet would be to compare both heads and find the difference.

Then post it up here so we all know the difference as well.
