Default Head gasket

4.0 head gasket, never changed one before. My new one has 3 Layers and they are riveted. Do I take the rivet out? Or just keep it how it is

I'd need to see a few photos or a part number and where you got it to give a good answer

I believe that is OEM type, you should be fine.

So the rivet still allows a good seal?

Mine was the same way and never had a problem with it. So yes, leave the rivets there.

It's an Multi-layer Steel (MLS) head gasket. They are always riveted together, don't touch the rivets. They will either compress or they're in a spot that isn't touched by the head like in a water jacket or something.

I was thinking the same thing. I couldn't imagine rivets allowing a good seal but was thinking perhaps they are situated where they aren't actually between flat surfaces. The head gasket I got when I did mine was just a single sheet of metal.
