Installed a clearwater head the other day, started up yesterday no issue's heated up normal
heat worked
didnt overheat.

I let it sit for around 4 hours til i got off work, went outside to start.
belt started squeaking bad.

then i started to drive it to my home. (less than a mile away)
i noticed that my heat was ice cold
temp gauge started to get past 215.

I got in my driveway and noticed that there was some coolant that sprayed out of the radiator cap. I checked for coolant level, it was good. I squeezed the upper rad hose and it was swollen, i grabbed the two hoses that go into the firewall and they were swollen. after sitting about 5 minutes they returned to a normal state.

Maybe the thermostat went out on me after i drove it the first time? and it wont open? both rad hoses are hot. but i dont see how any fans would not cause me to have heat.

im going to start with a new thermostat and new rad cap and see what happens from there

When you squeezed these hoses that wre swollen with pressure did you almost burn your hand? Because they should have been very hot if temp. gage said 215*.

Also, the rad. cap should route overflow to a tank not from around the seal.

And if cap was releasing pressure why were hoses so swelled up?

After you get a new cap, on start up on cold engine, let it warm up and feel hoses top and bottom on radiator to varify t-stat opening.

good luck

Is the rad cap the right psi? that will definitely cause swelling hoses.

If you put a 19psi cap on a 14 psi system you will swell a hose or two.

I don't know, I just bought the jeep from a friend. I'll change the cap and see what happens

update:

I had tightened the squeaking belt and it seems to have fixed the problem. Im assuming it was loose and it wasnt powering the water pump efficiently. Also, last night when it was squeaking, the battery was reading significantly low. So im assuming also, the belt was slipping on the alternator too. it doesnt overheat, and the heat works also

Update

Jeeps runs great, but it has a ticking noise coming from the head area near the exhaust. It increases as the rpm's rise. I'm thinking it's just the new head being noisy and maybe a small exhaust leak. Any ideas's ?

New problem, best to start a new thread.

Nobody wants to wade through multiple pages to find something not related, so you will get the best response with a new thread.
