Default headlight help!

I installed a headlight wiring harness upgrade last week still using the stock sealed beams. Today I installed my new autopal H4 housings. After installing the new housings the low beams will not shut off unless the brights are flashed...Anyone know what the problem could be?? This is on a 2001 cherokee sport.

THANKS

Which harness did you use? Housings should not make a difference on how the lights work. Seems like a relay or switch problem.

Ok...it did you check your bulb connections and make sure you are plugged into the right sockets (new harness) and not the old sockets (minus where the harness get's plugged into on the Passenger side existing headlight plug).

Yes its plugged in the new harness, I tucked the old one back so I wouldn't accidentally do that.

Wow that is strange.....maybe put back in the old sealbeams and see if the problem is still there.....not sure where the problem is....but I will think about it and see if I can see what might cause that....

I just went out and messed with it again, here is what it does.....car off: they turn on and off with switch....car on: they turn off when high beams are flashed or when the car is turned off

Maybe the headlight switch is bad....I hear alot about those going bad. In my 2001 alone it was replaced 3 times by the previous owner.

I just plugged the new housings in the factory harness and they worked as they should....think a bad relay was sent with the harness?? This just seems like a very strange issue to me

Definitely sounds like a bad relay. If you can't wait for the vendor, you should be able to pick up a replacement from Radio Shack for about $5.

Why the new harness to use H4 conversion housing? I have 98 and used the H4 coversion lights for a while until i mashed one and used the factory harness.
