Default headlight problems

The headlights on my 95 XJ have been acting up. My marker lights and directionals as well as tail lights all come on when I go to turn on my headlights but my headlights won't come on.
If I hold down the high beam switch the highs will come on but go out as soon as I let go of the switch.
It's only done this twice when driving through snow and usually they return to normal after a few hours of sitting. The first time was at the end of a long day on the road and only lasted a couple hours so I thought maybe I had a blonde moment and didn't have the headlight switch to the full on position, but it did it again the other day, again while driving through a snow storm.

I'm going to pull the headights out and check the sockets for voltage. but I didn't know if there was a ground associated with the headlights I could check.

Problem fixed. Ended up being a bad headlight switch.

Default Huh, same problem?

Ok, this is hard to explain. I have a 1991 Jeep cherokee. I was driving and the healight just went out. I tried the switch and the refused come on. The high beams work if you hold them on in the flash position. If the ignitions is off and the headlight switch is on you can toggle between both high and low beam and they work fine, until the delay turns them off. If you trun the igntion on the lights quit working. The park guage and tail lights work fine its just the headlights. I changed the headlight switch and the headlight delay module, but niether has helped. Any suggestions? Thanks

Ps. I also checked all my fuses. I figured some one would ask that.
