Default Headlight Switch Connector Melted

I have aftermarket LED lights on my XJ. My headlight switch was getting stuck and the headlights wouldnt turn on. High beams worked only if I held the high beam stick towards me, if I pushed it in the position where the high beams stay on by themselves it wouldnt work. Well I went to replace the switch and the connector is completely melted. I read that I could wire in a relay but wondered if any of you guys did it the same way with LED lights rather than stock. Also, I dont think the headlights would cause the melting, it's been a year since i installed them and this just started happening. Also LEDs dont require as much power but I was thinking that because they're getting more power than they need that it could cause the melting. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

My understanding is this is one of the reasons that many of us have installed the headlight harness.
The headlight switch does the brunt of the work and the headlight harness takes a lot of the stress off it when you do install it.
That and you get brighter headlights to boot.
That is really the reason that I did the headlight harness upgrade. Not wanting to be in the situation that you are in now.
The brighter headlights to me were an added bonus though. LOL.

You didn't mention the year, but the headlight switches on the older Jeeps like to melt down when they get dirty and develop a bit of resistance. I'd install a headlight harness. Replace the switch if needed. If you can't find a new connector, push the connectors out of the socket, cover with heatshrink and just push them directly onto the switch.

Resistance causes heating and can melt connectors before it will blow a fuse. I had a FUSEHOLDER melt and the fuse was still good. It had the Green Crusties! (corrosion)
