Headlights acting stupid

Headlights acting stupid
95 XJ headlights suddenly went out last night while driving. All the fuses in engine compartment are fine, corner markers are still on, brake lights work fine as well.
When messing with it just now, I realized the headlights will turn on when you pull the stick on the steering wheel, but turn off when you let go of the stick. Has anyone experienced this and have a solution maybe?
