headlights/running lights/dash lights not working again
So I replaced my headlight switch and the parking light fuse, and they've been working fine, but this week I replaced my headlights, and shampooed the carpets, and installed some off road lights. all with the battery unhooked. Hooked up the battery, and the off road lights worked, checked to see what my new headlights look like and... nothing. What did I break? The fuse is still good, what else is there to check? the switch is brand new. I don't see any kind of fuse in the fusebox for the headlights, just the switch itself.

I'm just gonna ask questions. I may not have any answers but might as well get thinking:
- Have you checked all fuses? I can't recall if the headlight fuse is straight forward or if it runs through a few in series like the interior lights.
- Is it only the headlights that stopped working? What about parking lights, interior lights, turn signals, brake lights?
- Are you sure you plugged both headlights in? Lol
- Do you have a headlight harness/ relay? Are your grounds good and is your power connected to the battery?
- What headlights? Are you sure they are good?
- How did you wire the offroad lights? New circuit fused to battery or did you tie into another circuit/ reuse the fog light circuit?
- Maybe try your old headlights again to see if it's the headlights themselves?

Good questions,
i checked all the fuses, I didn't see any fuses blown, from what I know it goes through the headlight switch, i couldn't find any headlight specific fuse.
Headlights and running lights are not working, but blinkers are I didn't check brake lights, I would assume they are since the turn signals work.
Yes, i have a wagoneer so all 4 headlights are plugged in, I checked.
I am using the factory setup, as I have a wagoneer the after market harnesses don't work, and I don't feel like retrofitting one.. yet. I did go through and refresh my grounds when I fixed the headlights a few weeks ago.
They are wagner? brand, I got them from rock auto. they are basically the ONLY available headlights available.
off road pod lights have their own harness off the battery switch ran into the vehicle.
The first thing I did was swap the old headlights back in.

WAGNER H4701 Halogen Sealed Beam High Beam
WAGNER H4703 Halogen Sealed Beam Low Beam
so 4 total lights, 2 high 2 low.
switching back to my original did not change anything.

Nothing is really jumping out at me based on your answers. Unfortunately that means I'm out of ideas
I guess my last thought is if:
If it were me, the next thing I would do is start testing with a voltage probe or multimeter. I would personally start at the PARK fuse to make sure that's getting power and go from there using a wiring diagram. I don't think I have a wagoneer diagram that I'm familiar with, but if it's like my 91 there might be a tonne of splices or connections around there and a lot of risk of a broken wire if you had to pull at least part of the dash off to install your offroad light switch.
If you had to fish wire through the firewall there's always a risk of disturbing a broken wire at the grommet.
I'm sorry nothing more is coming to me.
I guess my last thought is if:
- You are sure you've tried all positions on the headlight switch (rotating it, pulling/pushing in)
- The headlight switch harness looked corroded or melted when you swapped the switch

no worries. I ordered another new switch since it's a few bucks and if the switch somehow went bad, I would hate to do hours of troubleshooting over a bad switch. I already pulled my dash apart, and redid the splice work I did to fix the splice work of the previous owner(s). It is an absolute rats nest under the dash, but that didn't fix anything I'll be pulling my multimeter out next... Unfortunately my wife bought trees for me to plan for her, so I get to dig 2 3' holes tomorrow, and the ground here is like cement. so it will be a few days before I can get back to it.

Yup, it was that fuse, Found a wire that was shorting out on the body of the jeep, cut it and wrapped it up. It was the wire going to the under hood light, it had gotten cut somewhere along the lines, and so was just bouncing around shorting itself out on what ever it could touch.
