Headlights sometimes go out -
1996 Sport 4.0. In the last month or so my headlights will go out for a few moments and then come back on. I replaced the headlight switch a couple years ago. It happens quickly and in those milliseconds the lights are off I don't assess the situation for anything else that might be going on. I travel an unlit route and it's pretty unnerving when I'm on a winding road and can't see my hand in front of my face when the lights go out. I just throw out the anchor as a reaction but the lights have, so far, quickly come back on. Shaky ground connection?

Possibly a hinky ground, or maybe the new switch is having issues. If you don't have one you should probably install a relay harness so the headlight switch just acts as a trigger rather than having to handle the full current draw.

The power also runs through your multifunction switch so the fault could be in there, providing your new headlight switch isn't already going bad.
You can also check the headlight harness connector behind the (LHD drivers side?) headlight area.
If you haven't got the relay harness, I would advise that you get and fit one as it takes 99% of the load away from the original switches or any replacements.

Okay. Will look into subbing a relay circuit. Also, I did have my left fender and front clip off to bang out a dent in the fender just forward of the wheel well. I removed the LH headlamp so maybe I jostled something loose.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Old fart with a wrench
I believe there is a thermal circuit breaker in that circuit that may be the culprit. If so, the upgrade harness should cure the problem. Word of warning. Depending on the harness you get, make sure the fuse holder is weatherproofed! Mine got corroded and cut out, not even blowing the fuse! I spliced in a NAPA fully enclosed fuse holder that stopped that nonsense.
