Default Heat and Ac not at full potential.

So I haven't dug into it to much I have a 98 cherokee not overly modified, nothing effecting climate controls. I have all selection of vents but on full Ac I get kinda cool air but not cold and when it's cooler out on Full Heat I get almost warm air. I have checked coolant levels and they are good and I am not overheating at all so that would suggest probably not my thermostat. Is there something that could simultaneously effect both functions or is it a coincidental failure of heater core and my ac needing to be recharged at the same time? It sat for awhile before I started using it and I don't remember if they both worked when I first got it. Any help would be great. Thanx

Two separate systems EXCEPT for the fact they use the same blend door. So if there is an issue there, you might not have full cold air nor full heat.

In regards to the lack of heat: if your coolant is ok and no air in system, try reverse flushing the heather core (plenty info on this)- that usually restores heat.

The lack of cool air could be low refrigerant for instance.

Ok, I kinda figured there wasn't a component that would effect both. I'll research the flush and try that. Is there a way to tell if your low on refrigerant or is it buy the kit and try to fill it?

Check system pressures with a manifold gauge set and compare with expected pressures listed on an R134a temperature/pressure chart. If pressures are low you're low on refrigerant. (Note that this is approximate. The only way to be really certain you have the right amount is to evacuate the system and recharge with the correct amount of refrigerant by weight.)
