So on my way to work. 30 miles all highway. And my temp wouldn't go above indicated in the picture. It was rather cold this morning. About 27 degrees. So 27 plus the wind on the highway = pretty dang cold. When I parked at work I let it idle for a few before I went in I raised to the notch before 210. Is this an indication of a stuck open t stat?

Yes. Or at least one that opens way to soon.

Thanks everyone. So this could be why my XJ on high heat blows ice cold?

Should be lukewarm, not ice cold. See how warm the upper radiator hose is compared to both heater hoses at the firewall.

What temp should each hose be? Should one heater hose be warmer than the other?

Both heater hoses should be about the same temp as the upper radiator hose. Note what you find and report back.

My findings after a 50 mile drive. 95% highway. Didn't attempt to use the heat at all. The upper radiator hose is hot but both the heater hoses are not very warm at all.

So, there is little to no flow through the heater core then.

Flush time for the heater core......

I left the heater control valve alone. I used drano and left it in there to sit for about 5 minutes. When I let out the drano, some brown junk came out with it. Then I washed it out with water. Also replaced my thermostat too and it looked pretty bad so that may have been it.

If you ditch the HCV, it allows flow through the core year round and it doesn't stagnate in the core......which has much finer passages than your radiator.

I've flushed the heater core 3 times each time thinking I did it better than the last. Used CLR last time but only let it sit about 8 min. Should I leave it for longer ?

Have you tried replacing your thermostat? I would also try replacing the heater control valve or bypassing it. If neither of those work then I'm not sure what your problem could be.
