HEated Leather Seat question
Hi all. Been following the forums for a while, but just subscribed today.
I had a question about a 01 Cherokee Ltd.
The DS seat heater burned out, there is power from the switch, but nothing happens. The dealer said that there is no fix I have to buy a new seat.
Anyone have any suggestions other than a used replacement seat?
I wasn't sure if there was a repair 'kit' or a DIY to fix it. The interior is immaculate and its a shame that its the only interior issue we have.
Thanks in advance.

At the back of the lower seat coution is where the connectors are located for the grids. I most cases it the the seat coution grid and not the back grid fails, you can test the grids for continuity here with a meter. Depending on what style you have, it may be interchangable with a WJ, which a repair kit is offered.

You can buy generic heating grids. They install between the outer upholstery and the foam. Call a large upholstery shop.
Yours will have a burnt wire in it which breaks continuity.

i just got this one maybe it may help, how to perform a repair for the heated seat,
tools to be needed:
*philips screwdriver
*pliers
*soldering iron
*continuity tester
*electrical tape
*needle
*utility knife
procedure:
1. put the high and forward since we are going to work underneath the seat
2. remove the plastic pedal from the seat that holds the seat power adjustment *****.
3. observe the underneath of the seat from the front and you will see the white plastic clips that is attached in the seat cover to thin metal rods. unwrap the plastic clips on the front and console side of the seat.
4. pryed out the small plastic clip that holds the seat cushion to the metal.
5. then roll back the seat cover starting from the front.
6. carefully work for the seat cover roll back the seat cover and strip out the foam.
.
7. after rolling out the you will find there the wires coming out from the bottom of the seat. it is covered by small patch of cloth which is glued to the seat cushion. carefully separate the cloth from the cushion exposing the wires.
8. now go back under the seat from the back then Look on the door side seat rail for the relay. it is attached to the rail with a metal clip which look like it. Once you get it unclipped pull it back out as far as you can so you can work with it.
9. remove the relay from the connector and find the black wire with the orange stripe. connect the continuity tester to the BLK/ORG wire terminal use a paper clip.
10. Now test the two heavy wires you just exposed in seat cushion and find the one that provides continuity. To find the break we are going to work our way up the thin wire until we lose continuity.
11. Hold a sewing needle against the probe and push the needle into the thin wire. (just beyond the heavy wire) You should still have continuity.
12. To find the break in the wire you simply move the needle further down the thin wire testing for continuity as you go. When you no longer have continuity you have located the break.
13. Cut the bad part out and repair the wire. Soldering and heatshrink tubing are highly recommended.
14. Consider the fact that there may be more than one break in the wire before you go putting everything back together! This is easily tested. Go back under the seat to the relay connector and use you continuity tester to verify continuity between the BLK/ORG and the BRN/BLK wire terminals. If there are no further breaks you will have continuity, otherwise go back and use the needle to find the other break.
15. You can plug the relay back in and test it now to see if the seats heat up.
16. Reassembly is the reversal of the above steps.
if there's still more Jeep questions try to go to automd. they can help you out about some technical issues on your jeep. just got it from google. hope that this will be help.
good luck.
