Getting ready repalce the heater core and I want to make sure this is the first and last time to have to do it.
OEM core is NLA, anyone have any long term experience with a brand that fit and is standing the test of time?

Mediocre heat output compared to the stock one. Cherokee heat is lacking compared to my 94 Mazda 4.0 and my cousins 1500 Chevy.

It looks like the mopar 4874045, Valeo 515099, and everything copper have been long discontinued.
I would wager that the Crown Automotive 4874045 is about as good as you can get right now. The Omix-ADA 17901.04 probably isn't bad though.

\Your 94 came from the factory with a heater control valve.....Is yours still on there?
If so, eliminate it and plug the vacuum line going to it.

I checked the heater control valve. It does not leak and functions fine. It is a Napa replacement I believe. Will deleting it noticeably increase heat output?

Possibly. Check the temp of the hoses on either side of it. They should be the same temperature.
There is no downside to removing it and a few benefits.

Old fart with a wrench
IDK if this helps, but the heater in my 2000 Cherokee Sport doesn't have a control valve and the heater turns the cabin into a sauna if you've got it on medium blower with all the windows up. Much better than my WJ is even after a core change. My mechanic friend found me a copper and brass core from Leiland Radiator for $73 for the WJ. We had put a Spectra in it and it leaked within an hour. One of the pipe welds where they go into the core was cracked. Tearing the dash out TWICE wasn't fun!

I think Yankee should bypass the valve and see what happens.

Oh, absolutely! Don't do any more than is necessary. There are enough other problem to work on usually! LOL!

It seems like the uac brand has the thickest core tubes and fins compared to the spectra brand where just the sides are thick. https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/jeep,1999,cherokee,4.0l+l6,1431776,heat+&+air+cond itioning,heater+core,6864
opinions? I want to put the best in my 99. Might call dealers to find a mopar on the shelf. Mopar evap is still available.
