in the end, you're better to just swap the whole entire axle.
you can pull the tube seal thats in your axle and install an inner seal and add a block off plate just so you can swap the shafts with tj shafts to get the larger u-joints, but that's a lot of work, having to pull the carrier and such.

find an axle from either a 95 and up (they all came with the larger joints) or an abs equipped axle from an earlier xj.

the calipers/mounts changed from the 89 to 90 year tho. easy enough to just swap knuckles or calipers... depending on the donor axle and year of your xj.

So look for a 95 axle with breaks and everything ready to go and I won't have a vacuum thing
So 95 and newer have a locked axle factory or how does that work???

Where in WY are you heading. If it's the Jackson Hole area when you get out here join the Jackson Hole Jeep club. Plenty of good guys to help you.

Sorry I'm a newbe and would just like my jeep to work right for once!
I've seen other forums and they say that putting a hose clam on can damage ur axle?
I want to do the posi lock when I have the money bt for the mean time I need my 4wd to work
Anyone else put a hose clam on how long if it last
Did it break anything or damage anything

I bought a perma lock for my CAD on my 89 just for temporary purposes (while I am shorting my 1 ton axles) its real easy to do and have had no problems with it so far.
