Talking Help!4x4 howling

2001 jeep Cherokee xj up country model.basically have had it for two years and restoring most of it to make reliable for the road.(no problem with inspection, just things need replaced ....BASICALLY EVERYTHING HA. At the moment it is almost done except the 4x4 noise .in 2wd its fine but when in 4x4(any mode of it) it howls/whines.i have the 242 transfercAse with full time.about 20-25 mph it starts n gets louder as I go.it really doesn't sound rotational for the most part.just continually howls, gets louder with speed.if I take my foot off the gas pedal then it stops.if I brake I will hear it for a second or two but it then sounds more rotational?if that makes sense?im thinking the front diff needs rebuilt or the transfercAse needs rebuilt .id rather have a better idea to save money and to make sure I replace the right one first to finally get this beast on the road.i have searched high and low and can't find anything on this issue besides one YouTube video where a guy has a old red truck with the same problem but he doesn't tell i what it ended up being and no comments comment on the matter . The guys name is Paul Landry and the video is ....
. I just recently rwbuilt the front n rear driveshafts and noticed that the front output flange that connects to the front driveshaft has a **** hair of up and down play.i thought about replacing the bearing but from what I read ,if I replace it,it might not remove the play?when I say it's a **** hair I mean maybe two **** hairs at most . I'm thinking it's gotta be a bearing in the front diff or bearing in transfercAse...maybe worn ring n pinion gears at worst but then again I'm learning as I go and can use all the help I can get. Any and all info is greatly appreciated .....if it happens to be the bearing in the transfercAse,is it possible to replace it without tearing apart the transfercAse?or is there a snap ring behind it?or connecting it to the shaft?itd be ideal if I could say remove a snap ring in front of the bearing, use a 2-3 arm pulled to remove the bearing then get a pipe the same diameter n tap a new one in place?or am I dreaming ?ha. Thanks for your time everyone.hope someone can help me out here .
