I know I won't melt... I've never even had the luxury of air conditioning, so you don't need to say that. Prom is this week and I'm driving so I'd like to use it if possible. The pressure on the low side is 40, which is how it's supposed to be I read

I was kidding. Maybe you can get the parts in to fix it before what, Saturday?

Have fun at the prom.

From post #22:
"""""If the A/C has the proper charge, you won't have to bypass the low pressure switch.

It's there for a reason. It protects the compressor from damage if you have a low or no charge. """""

But you know it's charged.

You carry a fire extinguisher too - does that mean the one time you don't have it you'll have a fire?

I'd take the chance for the prom.

My post is correct and we don't know with absolute certainty is is properly charged.

We don't even know it actually held a vacuum from last year.

He said the pressure is 40 lbs. and it's getting cold. Sounds working to me.

It cannot have vacuum now after he charged it.

I bought a Cherokee a year ago, drove it for 2 or 3 months unaware that it had been bypassed. I noticed it one day - someone had forgotten to remove their jumper - who know how long ago. Plugged it in - everything was fine. They'd just forgotten.

I don't think that switch is uncommon or expensive. a real parts house - not Chinese junk stores - should have one.

It will lose all the freon and have to be recharged, pulling a vacuum should not be needed - unless it's left open a long time - days, weeks, months.

Have fun at the prom - careful, don't get her pregnant in your cold jeep. LOL

When you pull a vacuum, you are leaving a place for the Freon to go to initially. OP said he only got one can into it, and it was cool but not cold IIRC.

Of course, if the system had been opened, you are also drying the moisture out of it.

Sure, a little more gets in - IF it had air in it. But just changing the switch for a moment won't let much in - unless you blow air through it. The system really doesn't hold much at 0 pressure.

Sure - It will get colder - The difference might be 33 degrees instead of 32! IF THAT MUCH.
One can is NOT ENOUGH! He had more than one in it! Read his posts.

Check his post #21. He only says in all the posts, "I used one can of first charge". He also thinks that there may be some in there from last year, but he doesn't actually know.

He also says, "cool not cold the way A/C should be".

And he says it won't run unless jumpered.

Sounds like inadequate charge to me.

A 1/2 can or so makes a lot of difference sometimes.
