Help with cps...
New here to the jeep world.. My 2001 xj takes a lot of cranking before it will finally startup...Fuel pressure to the rail is good and it runs fine once it starts up...I want to check/replace the the cps...
Using the picture in my Haynes manuel(waiting for delivery of a FSM) I believe I have located the connection on the bell housing(drivers side of housing?), but I don't see how it is possible to get to it and remove it...
Also the picture shows the wire going up, along the exhaust down pipe...the wire to the part I am looking at the wire seems to head down further under the engine...
Am I looking at the right part?...Any help would be greatly appreciated..

You've got it the cps is on the drivers side bell housing, it is accesible from below with a couple of ext and a flex. the wiring will either be routed down drivers side of trans or up to the rear of the intake manifold. 20 min job in the driveway.

Heh, I had a question just like this... now I don't have to ask
So the CPS is just a bolt-on part, right? Take the old one off, put the new one on and you're done? No adjustments?

Thanks for the confirmation...As far as being "accesible"...I guess that's a matter of opinion.....I'll have to pick up a flex...Any idea what size the bolt head is?...I was able to trace it back to the plug...Speaking of which...What's with the plug connections on these jeeps?..I already snap a tab off the electric fan plug trying to remove it and wrestled with this one for about 10 minutes and still couldn't get it to serparate...

I dont know about yours but I know when I replaced mine last weekend on my 95 there was no adjustment. Just a foot and half of extension and a swivel and a few four letter words when I dropped the bolt...try not to do that by the way. haha Good luck.

just a plug n play , i think the bolt heads are still 7/16 , your connector prob has a red lock release that slide towards the fat side and then squeeze the release and separate

There is a write up in the Tech section here on how to do it. Its pretty straight foward but a ***** to do because of the tight space that you have to work in.

Try and get you fuel pressure checked, sometimes when they sit fuel pressure bleeds back into the tank. try this before starting , cycle the key to on then off three times, this will prime the fuel rail, see if it starts faster, if it does it could be an indication of failed check valve in the fuel pump

Hmm... interesting, I will throw mine in on the weekend then.
Never thought to try that... it's still too hot to drop the tank just because, but, my fuel pump is original equipment, so, likely this "winter".

Just an update to add...Right before I bought my XJ I was told the fuel pump had just been replaced and the fuel pressure checked because of a hard start problem...Last night I tried the key on, key off 3 times and she fired right up.......I've got some other questions concerning the fuel pressure, but I'll post them in another thread...
At least I know where the cps is and how to change it if I need to in the future...Thanks to everyone for their help..
