Borrow a battery out of a friends car if it has enough amps to match your jeep if you don't want to buy one,a car will run just fine with a dead alt and a hot battery until you drain the battery,you can also pick up a interstate blem battery for 40.00.If you have a battery with a name like economy you may want to rethink this.

Yeah but if it's turning that slow you know it's a problem with the charge of the battery. Could be just a bad battery or alt not charging the battery. If the battery she has gotten charged, turned it over at normal speed, it should start.

When the battery voltage is low on a cherokee the starter turns over sllloooow and then starts clicking real bad before not doing anything.

Another way to test before pulling the battery/alt would be to get a jump from another car. If the battery volts jumps above 14v after starting and the jumpers removed then the alt is good. If it drops it's bad then it will eventually quit running. Most parts places will test batteries and alternators free.

What is the date sticker on the battery? After 5 years a lot of batteries start failing. Most I have ever heard any battery lasting is 9 years; My dad had one last 9 years in an old tbird.

Op still has not posted the volt specs. of the battery or listened to anyone on here so I'm done posting after this. Like my aunt, car needs new tires, she buys a whole new car.

I feel stressed out reading all of these threads. I feel attacked. I need support on here and I appreciate the feedback but I'm still working on putting the alternator in. I don't have access to the tools you're speaking of. I have to work with what I have. I had to make a quick decision, obviously not a favorable one on here, when I had a ride so I made one. We'll see soon if I made the right one or not. If not, I will have extra work to do and I'll have learned my lesson.

For now, can someone please tell me how to get this belt back on? Thanks.

The routing is on the first picture you posted.
Check the fan shroud.

I have the routing but the belt is too tight. I loosened the tensioner and everything in front and behind power steering. What am I missing?

I assume you're loosening the tensioner bolt under the power steering pump? The one you have pictured. It appears to be loosened but the pump hasn't moved. Have you loosened the other 3 bolts on the power steering pump to allow it to move?

Loosen it a LOT. Push down on the Power steering pump a little to help it move.

Another tip, go ahead and put the belt on the alternator and get it started on the A/C compressor pulley instead of the alternator. It's up top and easier to get to.

With the Tensioner completely loosened the belt will be extremely easy to put on there.

The ones on the back too? No, you don't need to remove them.

I can see in this picture that the bolt is loose but you haven't pivoted the pump over to relieve the tension.

Use a box end wrench. Makes it way easier to get to.

Shouldn't be difficult at all with the air box removed.
