Default HELP its my only transportation !

I drilled out the ignition in my 1999 Jeep Laredo after that I found my key. I wrapped up the key to fit the drilled out ignition switch it worked fine several times. Got home backed in and parked it, next day put the key in and the ignition switch is locked up. What can cause this, and how can I fix it ?

You destroying the ignition switch is what caused it.

Remove the ignition switch and install one that hasnt been destroyed.

I just replaced the one in my 99 XJ, Auto Zone usually has them in stock and sometimes O'Rielly's. About $70 with tax.

There is a hole on the underside of the plastic that surrounds the steering column and ignition switch. Actually, there are 4 holes but 3 holes have screws in them. The fourth allows you to push the release for the ignition switch but it will only release it with you turning the ignition cylinder slightly. If it doesn't release, you have to remove the 3 screws, separate the plastic halves and disassemble the ignition. There are several Utube's to watch. One has a bonus in that it shows you how to hot wire your ignition.......that is too easy.

My '98 was stolen and the switch popped. When I got it back I drove it for a time using a screw driver as a switch.
