Can't wait for a fix on this one.... My '88 is doing the exact same!!
Changed TPS, IAC, and the coolant temp sensor connected in the radiator.
Not sure what to check next... Oh O2 Sensor change didn't change a thing either.

I have a couple thoughts to explore tomorrow. One is the "jeep guy" asked me if my heater works while staring at my crunched right fender and front bumper. Haha that threw me through a loop.

He said there's a vacuum ball down there, I guess if mine got crunched there would be a vacuum leak that I can't hear.

I'll keep you posted.

This is a very wierd situation... You need to find a computer and an obd reader. Maybe there will be something revealed there. Try crank pos sensor and cam pos sensor. Might be computer, too.

That was a main priority.

It was the vacuum leak from the "vacuum ball"! I never saw it to see what it looked like, but it must be smashed. I plugged the thick line going to it and now the Jeep is trail ready! well I still gotta figure out the lower radiator hose and radiator plug issue.

Here's a pic of the "revised all data vacuum diagram for Renix 4.0s":

Lol you didn't say you front end was munched! Lol not the most obvious. Check out renix vacuum bottle relocation in the technical write UPS.... well worth it. Relocate the ball under your coolant reservoir. Don't know why they put it in the bumper to begin with.

Hey slick, where does your jeep idle at? Here's a video of mine idling in drive. It hasn't died on me yet with the vacuum leak fixed, but it wouldn't take much.

What do you mean? Your tach doesn't work or you wish you had one of those real, old school tachs for setting the timing?

I'm pretty sure my cherokee is the base model. The only gauges with needles in my instrument cluster are the speedo and the fuel gauge. Everything else is a warning light...
