Before you move your post or it gets moved to the Grand Cherokee "ZJ" forum (this being a Cherokee forum "XJ"), It sounds like you need a new ignition lock cylinder. You can find those at the chain auto parts store in your area. An example is this one from AZ.... https://www.autozone.com/interior/ig...ock%20cylinder

Good Luck!

Something similar happened with a land rover that we had. We ended up getting a locksmith that looked at the VIN number and made a key. However, the key only worked for the door, and not the ignition. So we just put in a new ignition switch that came with keys, and we were good to go.

If the jeep has SKIM your gonna have a fight otherwise you'll just need a key cut.

X2 there... They are easy enough to do yourself if you just take it slow. And don't cost that much.
About 3 years ago my original one finally got too loose from wear to work right. I just replaced it myself. I didn't key it same as the doors. I grew up when it was normal to have two separate keys. So it didn't bother me.
