Help me identify the Model
Hi Fellas, I'm a newbie in Jeep and sadly in any forum such as this, so please bear with me. I live in Jakarta, Indonesia where Jeep population is a small number, unless you're looking to pick up the "OVER-PRICED" new models (think JK's U.S price x 3).
I came across an ad on the local web of a claimed to be 1978 SJ Cherokee, but when I compare with some web-found pictures, the rear tail light isn't the same (vertical vs. horizontal). Anyone can please help me identify the attached pictures?? Before I jump into a 2-hour flight across the country that is...
Much thanks

That's a SJ Wagoneer, basically a four door SJ cherokee with all the stuff in it. Cool.

but any way the pic you posted is not a 78
the tail lights are for no later than 71
edit found that yes up to 80 or 81 you could have that style tail lights

Nevertheless, think I'm in love already and plan to fly there anyway, see if the the metals are OK. If I were to buy new crate engine for it (in U.S), got any suggestion??

Hi Fantic238, Yes you're right, thanks. Just got a reply and correction from d owner: it's a 1975 Wagoneer, and used to belong to the UN's World Health Org. Sad thing is, the engine has been swapped w/ Toyota FJ's (lack of original parts down here)...

Mid 70s carburated gasoline American engines aren't something I miss. I can't imagine pulling that diesel. That is one slick ride if the swap was done well.

Ok an interesting thing would be to know what transmission it was mated to.
The toyota engine is a inline six and has a borg-warner standard bolt pattern, that means that the automatic tranny that best fits on it (the one used on the Land Cruiser) is the A340, aka the twin of our beloved AW4...
