Default HELP ME PLEASE!

Hello I'm an old member of the forum. With that being said I kinda sorta know my way around a jeep. Tomorrow I'm going to purchase this two door 90 model and it doesn't run. It's two hours away but for 400 bucks I can't not go get it! The owner says it would run for approx 10 miles and start sputtering and eventually cut off. If you wait it would run fine again for another 10-15. Owner says he put a new fuel pump in about 25k ago and used plug wires. I'm during two hours tomorrow to attempt to fix it and bring her home please let me know what I need to arm myself with on the trip!

Two hours away and not running right? I'd bring a trailer and mess with it at home. Might just be a plugged fuel filter, could be a short somewhere?

well I'm on a super tight budget rn I have access to a truck and trailer but I need to rob a bank for the cost of diesel and my buddy's time 😂

I would not even consider trying to resurrect a sick old antique Jeep with little to no money.

If it was easy and cheap, it would have already been done.

I have steady cash flow I just paid my bills so for the next few weeks I'll be tight. I make 11 an hour at 50 hits a week so it's not an awful budget I guess :c

Negative opinions aside, I appreciate your guys concern but it's all I can afford right now I just need to know what possibilities it could potentially be. Skips after 10 miles cuts off. Starts back up fine. He says it currently will not Byatt right now. I don't mean to be stubborn fellas but I'm determined to get this jeep I've got some history with it.

What do you need to arm yourself with? A flatbed, a load of cash and lots of free time.

It's likely a CPS or a fuel pump resistor or a fuel pump relay.

CPS will allow it to get to temp then once hot it will fail.

BTW, OP-

That is worth resurrecting, go get it.

Solid older XJs that aren't rustbuckets are getting hard to find.

I'd start just reasoning it out..See if there seems to be a pattern to when it cuts off and then see what happens at that point. Does the temp get to a certain point and then it cuts off..Does the cooling fan come on and it cuts off..Air pressure sensor activates..Sometimes 2 unrelated sensors share a common ground or connection and when one activates it sends a signal which causes a totally unrelated sensor to do something it shouldn't. But for now just grab a friend and a long tow rope. Drive it as far as you can and then tow it awhile.

exactly! I don't think 400 is a bad investment especially since it's rust free and a two door I dunno maybe I'm just desperate to get back in a Cherokee

Should I just try putting a distributor cap and plugs and wires in it?

Hey man, believe me I understand working on a vehicle you have history with but I would think getting your buddy to tow you should be cheaper than guessing and throwing parts at the jeep. That can get expensive fast.
