Default HELP. oil very black and smells like gas

96 jeep Cherokee sport with a 99 motor swapped.
I came out to my car and noticed 2 much bigger than usual oil leaks under my car.
I went to check my oil and the level is fine but very black and smells like gas.
I have class in 7 minutes, HELP! Is it safe to drive?

Probably safe......might want to check to see if your school offers a powder puff auto class.

^LOL.

I am not to good with engine work, but 10 seconds on yajhoo gave me these links...
www.ehow.com/how-does_5003081_gas-engine-oil.html
www.wiki.answers.com/Q/Why_would_the_oil_smell_like_gasoline
www.autoforums.carjunky.com/.../Gas_smell_in_engine_oil_P15614

Check them out. Seems like the answers are right there. If I had time, i would get you a real good site. LMGTFY site.

http://www.lmgtfy.com/?q=gas+in+my+oil

Looks like I had the time. lol.

Not rude, i know you had class, and the people here are very knowledgable, but it is funny. do read the sites though. very simple to understand, which is good, but the fix may be a little more work.

If you guys knew the work I put into this thing you wouldn't be joking around. I've nearly rebuilt everything in my xj. The engine I've never had to touch.
As I previously thought my oil filter adapter oring And sender unit are both leaking

I think the site(s) CPLSeraphim pointed you to have the 'gas smell in oil' solution. Fix the leaks, change the oil/filter, and do a little highway time to evap any gas getting in the oil. Maybe it's time to spend some time on that engine you've never touched.

If I offended, my bad, I wasn't joking around. Maybe I should have said beginners class, sorry.

I have googled and searched already btw, I asked on the forum because maybe this is a common 4.0 Issue. I didn't know.
I'm almost certain my oil is somehow mixing with gas.

It's not a common issue. I would have the compression checked now and if it is OK, change the oil and filter now.

If it's not OK, get an engine.

Besides being piston rings what else could be the problem? leaking injector?

I've already dumped 2300 into it.... and the PO swapped the engine in not too long ago

Leaking injector is the likely suspect. Hows does it drive, is it missing bad/at all?

Extremely smooth, no loss of power or anything and its nice and quiet.
I have 1 little hiccup at idle, nothing that noticeable. I've cleaned the throttle body out, changed the upstream o2 sensor, changed all plugs and wires. Also injector 6 is visible leaking, i have the o ring i just havent had the time to pull off the fuel rail and change it.

Visibly leaking? As in, there's gas all over the intake manifold? Man, I hope you have a fire extinguisher!
