Default Help removing door panel

How do you get the door panel off after removing all the screws and plastic clips? I can't seem to disconnect the two metal things that go to the door lock. Also the wiring harnesses for the windows/mirrors are extremely tight, is this normal or is there some kind of quick-release that I cant find?

Thanks!

What year is your XJ? There is a difference between 84-96 and 97-01 model years.

The linkage (2 rods) going to the lock have little plastic clips you need to disconnecta and swing out of the way. Be careful they're hard to un do and they break easily.

Metal hooks have plastic retaining clips. They slide to the side. The electric controls have a plastic tab that you have to push down while you're pulling.

Any tips on removing the plastic tabs for the metal hooks so they don't brake and can easily be reinstalled?

I use just my thumb. Using a screwdriver you could slip and really break it off. Grab the rod and apply pressure with your thumb and the slid right around. That's for the newer body style

Buy a door trim removal tool for a couple of bucks at any auto parts store. Won't break your clips and lasts forever!

I ave become a true expert on taking off door panels in the past few days...

The little clips have not proven to be brittle. So slide them off qith your thumb and pull the rod down. Then do the lower one. And pull the rod out of the lower socket.

For electrical- just wiggle it while holding down the tabs. Comes out easily agter a few times.
Then its off.
