Ive been trying to track down a vacuum leak and/or tea pot whistle that i get in cold temperatures (50 and below). I bought a smoke machine and the smoke is dumping out right at the throttle body shaft right behind the spring. Is it normal to have a leak there?

Hey I'm having this same issue. Did you get it resolved? Did you find if this was normal? I did a smoke test on mine over the weekend and it looks exactly like this.

I plan on getting a 63mm throttle body this month. I live in az so its been hot and it doesnt make the noise. Once it cools down with the 63mm ill know for sure.

That does seem like a lot of smoke, that may obscure another leak!
Of course with a manifold pressure based injections system, leakage here is still metered, and thus won't adversely effect mixture

What are the syptom of your problem?
I'm overheating with regular driving. I refreshed the whole cooling system with stock components and still experiencing overheating.
I was told I might be a experiencing a manifold vacuum leak which led me to doing the smoke test. The throttle body was the only area that the smoke was seeping through. I agree it may be obscuring other leak so I'll have to get it fixed somehow to perform the smoke test again.
I removed the throttle body and plugged and indeed saw that i was leaking at the intake manifold gasket. Tightened those screws and it stopped leaking. I also fixed my throttle body leak so there is no leak through there either.

Still experiencing my overheat issue
Im going to try that method of plugging TB. I installed a 62mm and its still whistling in the morning now that its cold again.
