Default Help verify what I have 91 XJ

I have a 1991 XJ Laredo, it is super clean, 100% stock, 100% all there, and 99.9% rust free.
I am certain it has a Dana 35 rear end, so no questions there. Plans to go pull a Chrysler 8-1/4 this weekend out the junk yard.

The front end is for sure a Dana 30, but it looks like a high pinion with center axle disconnect. Was that even a real thing?
If so, I am guessing thats a good thing, I can deal with the CAD, but I have the small u-joints right?

Transfer case, I think it is a NP231, but the tag sure looks like 201. I dont think that is even a real thing...

pics below.

D30 hp with cad?

231?

Thanks for the link, good info to have! I saved the pdf.

extremely unlikely this is a NP201, I am going to clean up the tag and get a better look at it.

Yes that is a HP D30 with the CAD. Standard for the early XJ's and YJ's. I have the same axle and plan to do the block off plate with 1 piece shaft.

And I would also say you for sure have the 231 based on the year, 2.72 gear ratio, and the red and silver tag. You can go to Novak's site and they have some good identification info if you want to confirm.

I actually ordered the posi-lok for it. I know there are better and cheaper ways to bypass this but I found it on sale and figured I would give it a try.

Laredo was an XJ trim level from 1985-1992.
