I just spent 12 hours putting in an oil pan, oil pump and pickup tube for a FORD truck.
Get this...the Oil pan RUSTED out and was leaking oil to the tune of 2 quarts per day.
Getting back to that 12 hours...I could have pulled the motor faster and did the job. Stupid ford design with a two part front axle some wishbone design...they WISH it was good.
Ford=fail
Found On Road Dead
F***ed Over Rebuilt Dodge
Chevy motors are a dime a dozen...So most companies cater to them with adapters and parts. Very easy install most of the time. Its like the generic drug that fixes anything but doesn't do all that much.
I have seen a 305 chevy put in a cherokee before. Forget changing spark plugs or a belt on the motor. Fans were mounted in front as pushers instead of pullers.
Have you read about XJ heat issues under the hood...Yeah try a V8 in there. Fry an egg on the hood at idle.

The 4.9L= 300-6 cyclinder best motor I have seen as far as power and MPG in the same package. The Flatheads had a block than a regular V-8. If you can find a flat head block buy it no matter what shape, that are worth more blown up than a 350.

You win the prize ..
36's + V8 + OE axles = Nice rig for street and fire roads.
The 8" Skyjacker Rock Ready Double Flex Kit sub frame only work on the OE D30.. This confirms the front is an OE casing. Certainly could beef up internals. However in my opinion the combo of V8 and 36's would still over power an improved D30.
I agree it's very sharp looking. But the lack of improved drive train is a limiting factor.
