Hi there!, new and have couple of questions before I buy this..
Hey there everyone,
name is Brian and I'm looking to buy a Cherokee tomorrow.
This will be my first Jeep, but my parents had a new one back in 01 which inspired me to buy the one I am.
I have two concerns with it however,
for one is the fact that the 4wd does engage, but the light does not light up, is there just a sensor somewhere for this?
Also, the shifter does not need the brake pressed down or the button pushed in order to go into gear. Is this a major issue with these? or just a linkage adjustment?
Thanks a lot everyone, and I hope to have a nice experience as a Jeep owner

i would say as far as the light it may be a bad connection or a wire worked loose or it could just be the bulb and as far as the shifter it sounds like someone broke it trying to swap the t handle on it

What year is this XJ? If it has a front axle disconnect it will probably mean it is not working.

This is a 2001, I did test it on some snow with it in the engaged position and the front wheels were spinning so it is working, just the light is not coming on

i have had three cherokees and of the three two would shift with out the button, never affected driving or wheeling. lights aint a big deal, just make sure your t case is back in 2 before you take off on any high speed excursions.

HAHA!. okay thanks, good to know there is no major issues then, now I just will need to figure out a way to get the door to close right... it is like out of alignment (open it, it falls down like a half inch or so, if you get that)

hinges or new pins, not to spendy. make sure the door is not cracked around the hinges though, that will take a welder and some time to get it realigned properly

Thank ya much!... I will make a note to look at that tomorrow, The jeep is at a B lot, but they do not do much to their vehicles, the Jeep has tires that are beyond bald to where the belts are showing lol

Yes that I will do, although it is your standard run of the mill cherokee lol, dark green exterior, with the two tone interior (the two tone I made a requirement while looking these past few months, I really wanted the sand exterior as well like my parents had, but that is hard to find)

I agree... i'm starting to grow to it already... but after new tires, I can now heard the driver front wheel bearing quite badly, so will have to get on that like tomorrow. along with an alignment, but the now needing the button to change the shifter I need to fix, I dont want it to get hit one day and end up in reverse while driving.
