Yeah, the TPS seems to be working okay.

(I lost track of who had what due to a temporary caffeine deficiency. I think it's pineapple that has the 4-cyl)

From Tip 8:
Sometimes, after adjusting your TPS the way outlined above, you may experience a high idle upon starting. If that happens, shut the engine off and reconnect your probes to B and C. Start the engine and while watching your meter, turn the TPS clockwise until the idle drops to normal and then rotate it back counterclockwise to your desired output voltage.

Yes - in my original post you can see that I tried that but it did not change the idle at all. Should the ISA be sticking out or retracted at idle?

@74Plb I tried that but of course the 3/32” Allen key stripped it. Today is not my day.

So the idle never reduced when the TPS was rotated clockwise?

Have you sprayed around the throttle body base with carb cleaner to check for air leaks? Around that crappy connector for the MAP hose?

The idle did not change, correct. Should it have changed immediately or would I have needed to let it wait? I’ve seen other people also commenting that turning theirs didn’t affect the idle.

Is air intake cleaner OK to use to check for vacuum leaks?

Yeah. That cleaner is fine.
Try setting the TPS at 15%. Tighten it down and drive it.

Will do. Before I adjusted the TPS it was at something like .62. and there were no issues. If I push my finger down on the butterfly valve, the idle comes down a little bit. I never touched the adjustment screw so the gap between the butterfly valve and the throttle body wall wasn’t mechanically changed - but perhaps changed due to the carbon being cleaned off?

No difference at 15%

Since this is turning into another one of those threads I thought I would throw this into the mix. I assume you're measuring the idle speed using the 33 year old tach in the dash. Because it's pre obd II you can't easily hook it up to an obd tool to confirm the number but it should be easy enough to find someone with an old Sun inductive tach/dwell box or similar to see if the idle speed is really off..... assuming you fixed all the vacuum leaks

It's not impossible the tach is off

@exasemech I was thinking the same thing. It runs perfectly fine it’s just at 1,000. The throttle body wasn’t that dirty. The ISA was dirty but not nearly as bad as I’ve seen in some of my videos. It would just be so much easier if there was someone local that I could bounce ideas off of in real time. The forum is great but there’s an inherent lag with a text-based conversation vs real life and I’m feeling very stressed.

Does anyone have a definitive answer on what the thread size is for the TPS? The original screw fits in a #8-32 nut but it does the “tighten then loosen” thing in the TPS. I still have the original screw but the torx is stripped so maybe I can put a slit in it if I didn’t screw up the female threads, which are aluminum, so I probably did.

it’s very frustrating that something as simple as cleaning a throttle body and adjusting the TPS has created so much aggravation.

Where did it idle before?

Right around 750. It is definitely idling higher now I can hear it. @exasemech raises a good point that it’s a 33yr-old tach. Maybe the tach is off and it was previously idling low and now it’s where it should be.

No I stopped at 6pm to have breakfast lol. I may venture back out in a bit. It’s 23 degrees outside.
