1993 Jeep Cherokee 2wd 5 speed high miles
I've had this jeep for 8 years, I got it when it had probably 150,00 miles on it. I've been sharing it with my Father up until about a month ago, and he's the type of guy that adds oil instead of changing it. I recently took the time to replace the rear brakes right down to the brake cylinders that were original equipment from the manufacturer. My objective was to get it registered and inspected (RI requirement) and after failing 5 times due to neglect, My Cherokee with 257,000 miles on it only cost me $300.00 to get back on the road legally. I am so proud of My XJ that I am determined to keep it going as long as possible. I am curious however, as to how many 21 year old XJ's with over 250,000 miles are out there? And keep in mind, Rhode Island is part of New England, with heavy salt content on the roads 9 months out of every year. -Proud XJ Owner.

It would be intersting to know mileage on original motor/trans. I know these things can last forever, but what's highest original miles on an un-opened engine or trans? That would be a cool fact to know.

Mine has 236,200~ and as far as I know it is all original, I had gotten a lot of service records from the previous owner. My wife was worried about the miles when I bought it at 226,000~ in November she thought it would break down. That's 10,000 miles and 6 months ago. I'm going to keep this jeep forever. It has no rust so I'm not worried about the body rotting off of it.

Yes that would?
Closest I can come to that is 443K with a cylinder head replacement at 364ish(catastrophic T-stat failure).
Head that replaced it had roughly the same mileage(if I remember right?), did not do a valve job on it just had it made flat.
At 442,900ish had the rearend go out

My 95 had 530k on the clock when the water pump seized up 50miles from home. I said screw it and ran it hot the rest of the way home blew the head gasket and washed the mains out. Ran great before that though Purchased for $700 a year and a half ago now and just put some simple parts and a cps in it to get it running. Would probably gone another 100k if I would have had a cooler head and paid for a tow home.
