Pull the fuel pump relay. Unplug the electrical connector from the pump. Siphon out gas from tank (if you're dropping the tank). Disconnect the hoses from the pump. The lock ring doesn't "spin" like some people write-may need some PB plaster. It's usually rusted and then you tap slowly with your brass drift and it will slowly rotate so move until it lines up with the slots until the tabs come through. On my '87 the pump comes out the side of the tank-don't know about yours but I assume if you are looking at that it comes out the same way.

Take the pump out first before you buy the replacement to see what type you have. I bought a carter first, but the pump I pulled out was a Bosch. My Carter failed after a few months and then I removed it and put in a Bosch which has been good for over a year so far. Be sure to put in a new fuel filter and new pump strainer when you do this. New hose clamps, check fuel hoses etc. Take pictures before you take anything out so you can see where everything goes back together.
It is a bit of maneuvering to get that pump, sender and wires all back in the hole. The hardest part was the new o-ring that goes under the lock ring. There are flatter one and rounder ones. My old lock ring was very thin and with the flat o-ring it would leak. The new lock ring was thicker and so was the o-ring so it was a real bear to get it back under and have the ring spin on. I ended up filing down the edge of the tabs on the lock ring to make them "sharper" so they would start under the lock tabs on the tank.

I put it in wrong the first time and my gauge read empty all the
time so pay attention. Lots of older posts on how to do this. Just search. I did it once by dropping the tank and once with the tank in place. Dropping the tank made the job easier but if you have room underneath, you can do it with the tank in place.

Whatever you do, DO NOT put an Airtek fuel pump or you will be pulling it again in the near future. Get a Bosch or a Carter.

I'm getting fire and my multi meter read is correct on all sensor. I'm getting fuel to fuel rail. so if i have a leaky injector it won't even try to start of t that what happened to you
