It would be nice to hear back from the OP, but we might not, so like he said this might be done anyways.

Sorry haven't had a chance to get back on here! I never even thought of something rubbing on it was a possibility, I just assumed it was from impact. Just checked though and sure enough it looks like a bolt from my bumper was rubbing on it. Not sure how I didn't catch this when installing the bumper .

Figures, smittybilt bumper, I've ran into SO many issues with it. Never again

Don't think I can go without that bolt though, it's the rear most bolt for support bracket. Going to have to head up to Ace today or tomorrow to see If I can find one that's a bit shorter.

Thanks for all the input!!!!

Just cut it shorter. I have the same pumper and mine barely sticks out the nut.

Also, you mentioned that you might move your alternator to the AC position. If you ever decide to do that. Here's a video I made.

I like the video, little hard to hear but still informative nonetheless. So it looks like you used the existing AC bracket, but I didn't hear what the alt bracket was from, was it from a ZJ? I've seen the write ups about it before but haven't paid much attention to them. Also I didn't hear what size belt you ended up going with.

Thanks!

yea, I tried using the GoPro to make that video and it turned out a little muffled. But I used the original alternator bracket and and bolted it to the original AC bracket. The alternator bracket just needed to be grinder down a bit to fit the ZJ 136 amp alternator. So both brackets were from the XJ and I used a ZJ alternator for extra power, but the regular XJ 90 amp alternator would work fine without grinding as well. Can't remember belt size, but I'll check

Edit: it's a 71.5" belt. After watching the video again, i realized how crappy the audio is, I'm probably gonna redo it and do a voice over so people can actually hear what i am saying. Lol

Thanks for coming back and letting us know! I was going crazy looking at mine trying to see what it might have been. lol As for the alternator? if it's pretty old I might replace it just to not worry. But if it is fairly new, myself, I would just blow it out well and JB weld that hole closed.

Sometimes there can be unforeseen variables that can defy common sense man...Like an aftermarket bumper bolt? I was looking and looking and starting to think you might have been right... lol

Alternator is about a year old. I think I'm just gonna buy a new one. Good idea jb weld tho. I think I'll do that and just keep it in the Jeep as spare. Haven't decided yet if I'm gonna relocate it or not. I'd like to but the Jeep has been in the garage for almost a month now. Replaced the camshaft and lifters and head the cleaned/tested. So now I'm finally getting it all put back together. Not sure if I wanna spend more time modifying, I'm itching to drive it again lol

Yes I thought that it looked like it had been rubbed to such a sharp edge it had broken off a little of it good call on the rubbing Bugout you could see the polished look.

Good idea JB Weld and keep for a spare.

Unfortunately that eye comes from doing thousands of Annual DOT inspections on Big trucks over the years that I would have rather not had to do if I could have gotten out of it.
