Default Holes in defrost door

I have a 2001 jeep Cherokee XJ and Iv been having an issue where no matter what vent mode I have my AC on air will blow through the defrost vent as well as whatever vent I have it set on. I don’t believe it’s a vaccum issue because all the vents open and close as they should including the defrost vent.. the air that’s escaping through the defrost vent seems to be coming thru 2 holes that look factory made into the defrost door. My question is it normal for there to be those 2 holes in that door and if so should air be coming thru them when the door is closed?

Did you ever happen to figure out the causes to your problems, I'm having the same issues out of my Jeep? All vents work but I'm losing a lot of air because no matter what setting it's on there is air coming from the defrost area.

Yes it was actually a vaccum issue after all I replaced both vaccum check valves under the hood there’s one beside the intake manifold and one on the passenger side firewall where the AC lines come out I can’t remember which one fixed the problem but I haven’t had an issue since. Also it’s normal for a small amount of air to come through the defrost vents no matter the setting.

It’s a one way check valve so to test you can remove them and you should only be able to blow through one end.. if you can blow through both ends then it’s bad. Also there’s some vaccum lines behind the glove box and if those have holes in them it could cause the problem.

I'll check into the vacuum lines later and see if I can find a problem, it doesn't matter what setting it's on I'd say 30-40% of my air comes out of the defrost vents. I appreciate you getting back with me though, I didn't know if you would see my post or not.
