Question Hood

The hood on my 1999 xj gets really hot after driving even after a little while. I don't have a hood insulation liner. Is there anything I can do to cool it down?

Cherokees run hot. No way around it. You can cut hood vents in your hood as I did and it let's a lot of the heat out but my hood is still pretty hot after a drive

Of course you can. There's several options. Go to google and type in Cherokee hood vents. Take a look at the pictures. I would say search here but I know people have problems searching the site.

Hood vents are really effective. Mine works great. Specially on traffic days. The cheapest route you can go is adding 13 washers x 2 stacks per side of the hood mount to raise it about an 1" up. Good luck

The blanket also helps, and seems to keep the paint and clear from being baked and peeling off.
If you open the hood a lot when hot, consider mounting gas-struts. Opens and holds the hood hands free and without the prop rod. Worn out rear hatch struts work best.

Once you have the parts and measurements, it is easy. But if you use different length struts (as opposed to 1996 and earlier XJ), will have to test fit until you get it right, unless you can get the measurements from someone else.
Brand new struts will not work, too powerful. To use new struts will have to get them with a lower PSI rating.

This seems to be more a suggestion than a question..
Here is a link that has some options, like mounting on hinges themselves rather than sheetmetal skin, and alternative struts to use.

At the rate I'm parting out Cherokees, I've got quite a few old hatch struts and the little screw-in attaching ***** available to me.

The stock 10mm ***** may work well mounted on the hinge, like in the above link.

The built-in search is useless. Instead, you can use Google to search just this site by adding the "site:cherokeeforum.com" tag to your Google search. Using the "site:" tag restricts the Google search to whatever URL you want to search, so it works for other sites also.

Example:

site:cherokeeforum.com cherokee hood vents
