Push it side to side and it should release. I had a issue where the release cable came out of the brackets so it didnt do anything

Check to see if your cable worked it's way out of the metal bracket that holds it in place.

You can also have someone push down on the hood while the release is pulled. It may save you the trouble of reaching for it from underneath or dismantling the headlight.

I've read about this prior to my 99 purchase and never wanted to deal with it. I put in hood pins and they work flawlessly.

Rolled up under the jeep, while on lunch and I saw the cable rod that runs the width of the hood, my hands are long enough, but to darn wide, I cannot reach it. Wonder if I can convince the fiancee to try later once the engine has cooled down, and I wrapped her entire arm in foil

Found a Tech Write up: Hood Pin Write-up and a site that has it for $11.95. A worthwhile investment. Thank you Bro....

Wondering if that is what happen, the bracket is located on the right center-side of the hood. That could be what is causing my issue.

I did hood pins as well. I love em.

I am probably going to fab some sort of padlock and chain, though, as its pretty easy to get under there and mess with things.

If I figure this out, I will be heavily considering Hood Pins w/padlock. Thanks Gee.

To get mine open on my 01 I took a long rod with a hook at the end and on the passenger side I pulled latch rod to pop that latch open and on the driver side I used long rod without hook and pushed where the rod connects to latch. Might sound confusing but that's how mine got opened.

Ya when you pull the hood release from inside the car one rod will pull and the other pushes. I did one side at a time popped one than the other.

CF I got it Hood opened: Rolled up under the jeep, pulled the cable rod that runs the width of the hood to the left, hood popped, then I pried opened. Cleaned out the bracket, with lube, then a little silicon. Next on my To Do List...Hood Pins. Thanks CF, You Rock!
