Did you guys take the hoods off? I don't think I could even come close to cutting straight without it being off and on the bench.

Nope, Measured 3 or 4 times and cut with hood on. 4 1/2" Grinder w/ cutoff wheel. My advice tape up hood well and measure, remeasure, and remeasure again.

Didn't remove my hood either, just taped, measured, measured, measured, measured, and then measured again before cutting. I also covered the engine with old cardboard and towels, and the windscreen with a damp towel.

If you are using a cut-off wheel, don't go through too far or you'll start cutting things like hood release cables and stuff that are just underneath the hood.

Nice and slow is the order of the day and you'll be fine.

what about water, mud etc getting in through the vents? im planning on installing some soon. are there any water shields or anything that go on the under side?

From my understanding the Lebaron vents have catchs under them for water.
