Hopefully a simple Detroit Truetrac question
OK story goes friends, friends has the front Detroit Truetrac Differentials for Dana 30 basically he sold the Jeep before he could put it in so came down to me friend offered to sell it to me for cheap otherwise its going on ebay. If I were to change the front to LSD because I searched all through these forums and all I found was alot of people fighting saying there not lockers. I really don't care if I can pick this up for under 50% off would I need to go out and get something for the rear end and mine is a 8.25 all stock. If I can put these on without changing the rear would it do any damage thanks.
I am pretty sure this is the one he bought he said only Dana 30 off quadratech http://www.quadratec.com/products/16100_603.htm
http://www.quadratec.com/products/16100_602.htm Might be these not 100% sure the gears in his gear are original to so it shouldn't matter but his Jeep is a 99.

I'd buy it, but you have to make sure what your gearing is and make sure it's the one for either your current gearing or your future gearing (after lift, bigger tires, etc..). You don't have to do anything to the rear if you don't want, mine has a factory limited slip, doesn't work very well but I want to put one in the front end so that I don't have to deal with a locker all the time, only when using 4x4. So bottom line is it won't hurt anything to just have one in front. Coach

sometimes lockers (if they are very agressive) won't unlock in low traction situations (snow, ice, slick roads) and will push you right through a curve. If its in the front the potential to do the same thing is still there but if you aren't in 4x4 then it doesn't affect anything. Plus the OP has the opportunity to buy one for the front at a greatly reduced cost. AlsoI have a buddy with a locker in the rear and he can't drive a straight line when there's snow on the road. Think something may be wrong with his diff....have used 4 PowerTrax No-Slip auto lockers in the rear of various vehicles including our XJ....ice, snow or dry, excellent traction/handling.

Well because I don't feel like paying for it and this Jeep is more my ride to school then a mud truck just yet when I get a better Job I will get Jeep fever. Plus I am one of those always been a fan of LSD not as powerful but less that can go wrong. That's just by me searching online I really don't know that much except listen to alot of people argue with each-other here and LSD seems to never have problems just not not work as well.
